Notable Incidents

Some deaths in detention have been high profile, such as a senior hospital director who died in confinement after four months in confinement.

A detainee detained alongside the victim reported that he was brought to the yard by guards shortly before his death, obviously hurt and unclothed from the waist down. His remains has not been repatriated to Gaza.

Other prisoners who lost their lives in Israeli custody are unidentified. The prison service and military supplied analysts with the total of casualties in confinement, and minimal additional information including the facility where they died, but without the prisoners’ names.
