Toy Story 5 Trailer Sets Woody and Buzz Against a Digital Device
It has been 30 anniversary since the first Toy Story film debuted, launching the animation giant as a leading animation studio and bringing viewers to beloved characters like the cowboy doll (the actor) and Buzz Lightyear (Tim Allen), who are now household names.
In 2026, the next chapter is set to arrive. The initial preview for Toy Story 5 appeared recently, offering a brief look into the plot but keeping viewers curious how it will address the conclusion of Toy Story 4.
Bonnie's New Toy: A Digital Device Spooks the Toys
In the teaser shows the young girl — who inherited Andy's toys when he grew up — getting a brand new toy, one that terrifies the familiar toy group. Bonnie gets her initial digital gadget, and she is excited about it.
Theoretically, the frog-shaped tablet will come to life just like Bonnie's other toys. Still, the characters seem to view it as a danger intending to supplant them, which it probably is.
Woody's Return: Mysteries from Toy Story 4
One thing the trailer avoids is what Woody is back with his friends in Bonnie's room. The end of Toy Story 4 saw him embark on a fresh journey with the shepherdess (the actress), traveling with a carnival and assisting giveaway items find good homes.
Certainly, the filmmakers will address the aftermath of Toy Story 4 in the movie. Witnessing him show up in the familiar setting without warning is a little strange, though. It also makes us wonder whether Bo Peep will have returned with Woody. And where is Duke Caboom (the star)?
Continuity from the Last Installment
Fortunately, some aspects are continuing from the earlier movie. The last thing Woody did before setting off for his fresh path was hand over his sheriff badge to Jessie (Joan Cusack), leaving her as the leader of Bonnie's bedroom. In the teaser displays the insignia pinned to her shirt.
Hopefully she is remains the key figure among the group.
Toy Story 5 debuts on June 19, 2026.
