Roughly 50 automobiles have been marked with what appears to be human blood in the Germany's municipality of Hanau in proximity to Frankfurt, police confirm authorities.
Vehicles, building surfaces and postboxes were vandalized, in some cases with swastikas, they announced in a statement.
Officers report they were contacted late on Wednesday night, when a resident discovered that a car in the Lamboy district of Hanau had been marked with a red-colored substance.
The substance had been drawn in the form of a Nazi symbol, they stated.
Officers then found multiple other marked vehicles and residential walls in the adjacent neighborhood.
Swastikas are prohibited in Germany under laws banning the visible presentation of Nazi symbols.
Law enforcement state initial examinations indicate the fluid was likely human bodily fluid.
"Currently there is no clue as to its origin; investigators are not yet aware of any harm in relation with the event," they added.
Local authorities announced they were working "to resolve the case" and have appealed to the residents for tips.
An important representative said the attack left him stunned and required to be resolved promptly.
"This incident hits the very heart of Hanau and reawakens the wounds of the far-right terrorist attack half a decade ago," he posted on a platform, referring to the killing of nine victims by a shooter targeting people of immigrant origin in five years prior.
